Discovery of conducting plymers have inspired exploration of organic electronic materials. Thin films of linear acenes such as tetracene and pentacene have been found to be potentially useful as semiconducting materials. In this presentation, we discuss the growth and strucutre of thin films of linear acenes and their bonding to the metal substrate experimentally determined through a combination of ultrahigh vacuum surface science and nonlinear optical techniques.
