Asymmetric bimetallic ruthenium (II) complexes of the form [(tpy)RuCl(BL)Ru(phen)2]3+, where tpy = 2,2':6',2-terpyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, and BL = the bridging ligand dpp (2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine) or bpm (2,2'-bypyrimidine), have been synthesized. The complexes have the potential to interact with biomolecules such as DNA. The phen ligand should increases the light absorbing ability over terminal ligands such as 2,2'-bipyrimidine. The synthesis, purification and characterization of these complexes will be presented.
