The Stanley C. Israel Regional Award
for
Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences

Purpose: To recognize individuals and/or institutions that have advanced diversity in the chemical sciences and significantly stimulated or fostered activities that promote inclusiveness within the region. Deadline for receipt of nominations is January 15, 2005


ACS Regional Industrial Innovation Awards Program celebrates the successful innovations of industrial chemists and chemical engineers that contribute to the health of their local and regional economy and the corporate leadership for its advancement of a healthy economy. Awards are given to individuals and teams whose creative innovations have contributed to the commercial success of their company and, consequently, to the good of the community and society.

We invite you to nominate one or more candidates for the 2004 & 2005 Regional Industrial Innovation Awards cycle and join us in recognizing outstanding professional chemists from the chemical and allied industries. We are proud to announce that we will host the program to present all the 2004 and 2005 award recipients during all nine 2005 regional meetings. The recipient(s) of this award will be honored during their respective regional meetings with an ACS certificate. In addition, recipients will be invited to present a 20-minute talk on their innovation at a special awards symposium with tabletop displays showcasing their work.

 


E. Emmet Reid Award

This award is administer by the Steering Committee of the MARM of the American Chemical Society for outstanding achievement in teaching chemical sciences at small colleges with in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Marm High School Teacher Award

This award is administer by the Steering Committee of the MARM of the American Chemical Society for outstanding achievement as a teacher of high school chemistry and for exceptional contributions to science education.

Purpose:
To recognize, encourage, and stimulate outstanding teachers of high school chemistry in the Mid Atlantic Region. The MARM Region of the ACS consists of Local Sections in Central Pennsylvania, North Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Ocean County, Susquehanna Valley, Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, Trenton, Maryland, Princeton, Washington, Monmouth County, South Jersey, Western Maryland, New York.

Nature:
The regional award consists of a cash award and a plaque. Reasonable travel expenses to the meeting at which the award will be presented will be reimbursed. A certificate/plaque will also be provided to the recipient’s institution for display. In some cases, the awardee may be asked to give a keynote address or participate in a symposium with other teachers.

CEM Sponsors Microwave Chemistry Award for ACS Regional Meeting

(Matthews, NC) January 11, 2005 – CEM Corporation, the leading solutions provider for microwave-based life science research applications, is pleased to announce today that the Company will be sponsoring an award for Best Student Poster Presentation in Microwave-Assisted Chemistry Research at the 2005 Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize at the meeting, which will be held on the Rutgers University campus in Piscataway, New Jersey, May 22-25, 2005.

Collins, President and CEO of CEM Corporation. “Thus, we are pleased to sponsor this award in the hope that it will invite students to think outside traditional techniques and inspire them to explore new ideas.”

2005 Student Award Symposium

The Annual DVCF 2005 Chromatography Forum Student Award Symposium
provides graduate and undergraduate students with an opportunity to present their research in the field of separation science at the 2005 ACS MARM Meeting, to be held at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Piscataway, NJ, May 22-25, 2005. Presentation of a paper at this symposium enables students to achieve recognition for their accomplishments, as well as developing important career skills and professional contacts.

All students whose papers are accepted for presentation at the Student Award Symposium will receive an honorarium of $250 and partial reimbursement of the student registration fee. Each student will also receive a certificate acknowledging his/her accomplishment and commemorating the event, which is sponsored by the Chromatography Forum of Delaware Valley.

Though many participants are pursuing separation science as their major course of study, students in the areas of medicine, biochemistry, engineering and organic chemistry have successfully presented papers describing areas of research that involve separations. For a paper to be given full consideration for presentation at the Student Award Symposium: Submit a title & 150-word abstract before March 7th to:
