Welcome Message

The Susquehanna Valley and Southeastern Pennsylvania sections of the American Chemical Society are working hard to create an intellectually stimulating, as well as personally fun 2006 Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting in Hershey, PA. One of our themes will be chemistry in healthcare; some of the best healthcare related chemical research and development in the country, and perhaps in the world, is performed in the Middle Atlantic Region of the American Chemical Society. Encompassing both academic and the industrial research, and including pharmaceutical, adhesive chemistries and separation science, chemistry enters into numerous aspects of modern healthcare. A second theme will be chemistry of food products including, of course, the chemistry behind the commercial production of chocolate products. As always, there will also be a wide variety of technical sessions in the traditional areas of chemistry at which the top chemists in our region will present their new and exciting research. Cutting-edge chemical advances can only be achieved by well-educated and dedicated scientists. Recognizing that many of most active chemists in the Susquehanna Valley and the Southeastern Pennsylvania sections are involved in the educational enterprise, we plan a very active program in chemical education. Our sections are literally dotted with Colleges and Universities that teach, inspire young minds to learn, and practice chemistry. The MARM 2006 experience will reflect that dedication to science education that we embody in our local sections.

The program Co-Chairs are setting up an interesting array of symposia, poster sessions and social events for MARM 2006, making this meeting a great time to interact with other chemists to discuss the new developments taking place in your field. All of this chemical dialogue will transpire in the wonderfully elegant setting of the HERSHEY Lodge, in Hershey Pennsylvania. Outside of the meeting itself, there is a great deal to see and do in the Hershey area. We are just a ten-minute drive to HERSHEYPARK a fun adventure park for all ages. Hershey is close to Harrisburg, which is the Pennsylvania state capital. In addition to housing one of the most elegant state houses, Harrisburg has many intriguing museums. Hershey is only a 30-minute drive to the Amish Country of Lancaster. Both Lancaster and Hershey have great shopping malls to visit. So bring your family and enjoy the local attractions.

On behalf of our committee we would like to welcome you to our web page.

Thanks,

Don Mencer and Mike Shifflet
General Co-Chairs, MARM 2006
